Somewhat Fragile

Memory is a process by which we encode, store, and retrieve our experiences. Theories suggest that the brain forms many copies of the same memory. In Thomas Hobbes’s philosophy, he discusses memory as “a testimony of an empirically possible experience. We extract key elements from our experiences and store them. We then recreate or reconstruct our experiences rather than retrieve copies of them. Sometimes in the process of reconstructing we add on feelings, beliefs, or even knowledge we obtained after the experience.”
Objects in these images are carefully arranged but are very personal collections. Objects and spaces can be psychological signifiers of memories of place, time, people, events, etc. They are an inventory of memories, stored as snippets or flashes or images, either still or moving. “Somewhat Fragile” is about the delicate and pliable nature of memory.
